How to Connect Your Own AI Models
See which AI models Reepl offers, and connect your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or OpenRouter API key
Reepl gives you a short, curated list of AI models to pick from in Andy and Co-Pilot. Some are hosted by Reepl and run on your credits. Others run on your own AI provider account once you connect an API key. Connecting your own key is called Bring Your Own Key (BYOK).
Available models
The same list is used by Andy's Model setting and the Co-Pilot chat model picker. The Chrome extension's model setting shows the models from this list that you can use.
| Model | Runs on | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Auto | Reepl | All plans |
| GPT-5.6 Sol (best) | Reepl | Premium and above |
| GPT-5.6 Terra (balanced) | Reepl | Pro and above |
| GPT-5.6 Luna (fast) | Reepl | Pro and above |
| Claude Sonnet 5 (balanced) | Your Claude key | Pro and above |
| Claude Opus 5 (best) | Your Claude key | Pro and above |
| Gemini 3.8 Flash (balanced) | Your Gemini key | Pro and above |
A model your plan doesn't include shows a crown icon. In Andy's settings, a model that needs a key you haven't connected shows a key icon. In Co-Pilot chat, the Claude and Gemini models appear under Your Models once your key is connected.
AI keys
You can connect a key for four providers on the AI Models & API Keys page. Anyone can connect a key, but the Claude and Gemini models in the list need a Pro plan or higher.
- OpenAI -- Reepl's writing tools, like post writing and rewrites, run on your OpenAI account instead of Reepl's AI. It also lets you generate images with ChatGPT Images in the composer. An OpenAI key doesn't add an extra model to the list above. The GPT-5.6 models are hosted by Reepl. See OpenAI.
- Claude -- Unlocks Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Opus 5 in the model list.
- Gemini -- Unlocks Gemini 3.8 Flash in the model list, and lets you generate images with Gemini in the composer.
- OpenRouter -- You can connect an OpenRouter key and turn it on or off like the others. The curated list doesn't include any OpenRouter models right now, so connecting one doesn't add a model to the picker.
Using your own key lowers what AI generations cost in credits. See Usage & Credits for pricing and what happens if your key stops working.
Connect a key
Open AI Models & API Keys
Go to Settings > AI Models & APIs, or open AI Models & API Keys in the app. Providers you've connected are listed under Connected. The rest are under Available.
Select a provider
Click OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or OpenRouter under Available. The card opens with step-by-step instructions for getting a key from that provider.
Paste your API key
Paste your key into the field. Each provider's key has its own format:
- OpenAI: starts with
sk- - Claude: starts with
sk-ant- - Gemini: starts with
AIza - OpenRouter: starts with
sk-or-
Click Add API Key. Reepl checks the key and moves the provider to Connected.
If you choose to use your own key while setting up Reepl on the free plan, connecting an OpenAI key starts a one-time 7-day Pro trial. If you later remove the key without a payment method on file, you lose access to those features.
Turn a key on or off
Each connected key has an on/off switch, so you can stop using your own key without deleting it.
- On the AI Models & API Keys page, click Manage next to the provider.
- Use the switch on the key card (for example, Add Your Claude API Key) to turn the key on or off.
A key that's turned off stays under Connected with a Disabled badge, and Reepl doesn't use it until you turn it back on. You don't need to re-enter it. To remove a key completely, click Disconnect on the same page.
